This book discusses the National programme of Nutritional support to primary education (NP-NSPE) commonly known as the Mid-day Meal Scheme. The Mid-day Meal Scheme not only promotes enrolment of the students but also develop habit among the children to go schools everyday where they get guarantee of food at least one time a day which is difficult for the parents to manage due to poverty and economic constraints. This scheme develops enthusiasm among the children and reduces burden of the parents who are unable to send children to schools and rather utilizing them as mode of income. This scheme gives economic relief to the parents. This study finds that this scheme helps to improve enrolment of the students constantly and reduced drop-out rate among the students. Similarly, results of the students have improved in sample schools in Assam. This scheme spreads the message of education development. This scheme has become popular among the children and the parents who are unable to meet costs of the education, and who take children with them to urban or semi-urban areas for employment opportunities in Assam.This scheme reduces migration of the children along with the parents which make them to work on places like hotels, restaurants, garages, manufacturing units of crackers, bar, brick kiln etc. on wages. Due to implementation of this scheme enrolment of the students and performance in the forms of result both have constantly increased but due to control over birth rate (which is negligible) especially among the middle and upper middle class families in rural area Assam, and accessibility of schools, the enrolment is constant in many of the sample schools and the same continue next year in higher class (until and unless child would not drop of the school due to one or other reason).
