This book is based on an empirical research carried out by the author in Kashmir valley focussing on domestic tourism. Valley of Kashmir is known as jewel in the crown of India. It has a recorded history of five thousand years that has shaped it’s physiography. Lush green meadows, gushing fresh water streams, lofty Himalyan range mountains, Mughal era gardens and multi ethnic/multi religious fervor has made it an attraction beyond recognition. Known all over the world for it’s exquisite handicrafts, hospitable people and culinary art, it is a magical place. The attraction of visiting Kashmir is indeed irresistible. For some turbulent period in late 20th century, the tourism industry had a phenomenal setback. Hardly any tourist could be seen visiting the place. Nonetheless, the resilient people of country and Kashmir kept the flame of tourism alive. Despite heavy odds, but with robust State support, the tourism is now back. Domestic tourism is backbone of tourism industry in Kashmir. The research work depicted in this book is amply supporting the fact that Kashmir has a special place in the heart of domestic tourists. And that no distraction affects them while making a decision to visit. Hospitality industry in Kashmir has over the last decade undergone sea change. Upscale hotel chains have found way in Kashmir. All segments of tourists continue to avail super class hospitality experience leaving an impression of profound satisfaction.
