Geomorphology is an Earth Science field that includes Geophysics, Geology, and Geomorphology; but it is broadly treated as a branch of Geography and placed in Geography Departments in the universities of India. Geomorphology is the science that deals with the sculpting processes that lead to the creation of different landforms on the planet.
There are different branches of geomorphology: Fluvial Geomorphology, Glacial Geomorphology, Arid Geomorphology, Coastal Geomorphology, etc., and Tropical Geomorphology is one of them.
Tropical Geomorphology is specifically the study of geomorphic processes and landforms that are unique to the Tropics on the globe. This is taught in all the Geography Departments of Indian universities and many universities abroad.
There are only a handful books on Tropical Geomorphology that have been written as textbooks for students thus far. India is known for its diverse geomorphology, and because it is located in the Tropics, it represents the entire Tropical Landscape; which is well-represented in the book, with numerous examples and case studies.
Teaching the subject for the last 35 years has made me aware of the range of challenges students face in grasping the subject. Hence, the subject has been presented in the most appealing manner for students in this book, which will serve as useful material for conceptualising the subject.
